Scouting, which stands for “Praja Muda Karana,” means young citizens who create or young people who love to create. Therefore, scout members possess characteristics of active, talented, and creative youth who are industrious, socially conscious, and always eager to broaden their knowledge.
On Friday, September 1, 2023, during the scouting activities at the SMP Juara Bandung front troop, a readathon was held. The term “readathon” combines two words: “read” and “marathon.” Thus, a readathon is a time when we must read books continuously within a set timeframe. This readathon activity serves as early or foundational literacy as part of the habituation process. The readathon is designed to spark interest and motivation among students to read, and once it becomes a habit, it will foster a culture of reading.
On this Friday morning, all members of the SMP Juara Bandung front troop gathered on the school field. Sitting on tarps, the members sat cross-legged and read their respective books. For about 15 minutes, everyone was absorbed in the words they were reading.
At the end of the session, representatives from the scout members of grades VII, VIII, and IX shared the inspirations they gained from the books they read. Hopefully, this reading activity will become a regular practice for all scout members.
